We're on the road to nowhere....

Election day. My first post in almost a year. Coincidence perhaps? You are right! But nevertheless...a good day for new beginnings. As of today I am a live-in nanny, I have a beautiful boyfriend that only pisses me off *some* of the time, and in two months I'll be in Med School. Life moves quickly, my friends. In the meantime...some random photos of times gone by for your viewing pleasure.

I found him!

I found someone...and throwing myself out there still scares me, but I could care less! Yay!

What's the greater evil?

What do you do when you're too stressed out to find someone to be close to, too stressed out to want to have to part with your time, but at the same time you're lonely and don't want something shallow? It's a tricky sort of situation when you want something to hold onto so badly it hurts, but the thought of it makes you sick to your stomach at the same time.

galaxy potatoes

It's fall now and I began working at a farm recently owned by a man named Will. He runs a program called the Scatter Seed Project, and currently has between 8 and 900 varieties of potatoes growing on his property. My favorite, I discovered yesterday is a type called Daku's Round Purple. In it's small eye puckered form it already is swirled with a delicious red and purple design, to which Laura replied " They should be called Galaxy Potatoes." I can't help but agree. They really are the loveliest one I uncovered up there.

Easter Walk

Luckily there was a enough prettiness around here to keep me relatively happy on Easter...though really I just wanted to go home

I think these really are my favorite kind of flower. They're small enough so they don't seem like much by themselves. Then they burst up in ridiculous clusters, like they're saying "look at me! look at me!"

This house kind of looked like an Easter egg. It actually kind of reminds me of the spinning wheel dad's working on back home. I can totally picture him working on restoration jobs like this.

Things they have here they generally don't there

In Maine, we usually have moose....but HERE...we have the wild, the mysterious, the imperious.......ELK!

Also...it's only in certain parts of Maine where you'd find enough crazy hippies to gather and do a weekly drum circle. This one happens in the park every Sunday, rain or shine, and it lasts all afternoon...sometimes into the evening if the sky is clear.

Over break, I went on a fantastic gray whale survey...and for the first time sighted some whales here on the West Coast. I don't have pics of that though...they were miles and miles away...but I DO have pictures of our survey sites and everyone that went. Sarah Gaffney was visiting from Maine and came along to see what we all do for fun around here. Haha...well, 1 full credit of fun, that is. Here's our view from Point St. George, just north of Crescent City...

Here we were surveying from the Crescent City Oceanview...where my first siting occurred. Exciting!

Next we moved to the Klamath River Overlook...there were people doing traditional fishing, and we saw a gray whale in the last 5 minutes of our survey, so we had to stick around an extra half hour to observe it.

Spring has sprung in Humboldt County

Everything seems to be much bigger here on the West Coast...the trees, the mountains....the egos. I try to take as much time to look at all the little things around here, though...they're a large part of what makes it beautiful.
